My suggestion would be to boot into Safe mode, backup your personal files to an external drive and then use the HP built-in tools to return the PC to factory condition. I did a detail scan on both Malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials, and neither indicated any problems. The only solution was to reboot, which seldom stopped the explosions. About a week ago my Internet Explorer 'exploded,' opening windows faster than I can close them, with as many as 20 or more open at once. I have started using Chrome as my browser but cannot create any new files. When I open the Windows Explorer and try to create 'new,' the only choice available is now 'Briefcase' with the new 'File' choice having disappeared.
In addition, I can no longer create files. When I use it, it locks up again and again. When I try to reload with a new version I get the message that I am already using the latest. Internet Explorer has become useless to me. I run Windows 7 Home Premium on my two-year-old HP P6710F desktop, SP1 and have 8 GB RAM and 64-bit operating system.
